![]() Till now what we have read above is the conventional wisdom of economics.īut, taking cue from the last observation where the LRAC increases when a large number of multiplex screens show the same movie (attendance per show falls abysmally low), an interesting observation I have made is that slowly but surely, the single screen theaters are looking forward to keep on running the shows long after the initial box office euphoria dies down, And, it makes more economic sense to run the movies in a single screen theater when the initial box office run subsides. Other characteristics that affect the single screen ownersĪnother observation done via studies is that if there is an oversupply of screens in a multiplex kind of environment, the long run average cost (LRAC) associated with it rises. The major disadvantage single screen theaters face is the large fixed cost of screen. Moreover, since the existing infrastructure of single screens have been at least 8-10 years old, they need a fresh round of capital infusion to bring them up to speed with accepted norms of comfort and cinematic viewing experience. The obvious losers at first glance are the large numbers of single screen owners who simply cant take advantage of the economies of scale. ![]() The entertainment industry is one area which has largely not been affected by the economic slowdown, barring the huge multi-crore projects, the average throughput of the top 4 tinsel towns have not abated (namely Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore). From 2004-2014 we have witnessed an average growth of over 8% in spite of the global slowdown post 2008-09 Most of the non-Tier1 towns are facing the first fruits of the stupendous growth in terms of GDP our country has witnessed in the past 7 years. Usually the multiplex is in a large mall enjoying the position of an anchor, so a movie outing becomes a shopping outing too.Convenient parking for which they are usually charged. The other sources of gratification of the customer are: ![]() There is a distinct value proposition given to customers when a multiplex opens. The latest trends clearly indicate that the multiplex operators are aggressively targeting more and more Tier-2 and Tier 3 towns of India. Theatre screen explosion is growing at a rate of 10% per annum led by the multi-screen operators. It is for this reason that we speak of screens when measuring the density of cinemas in a given area. When I look around, I can observe that there are mainly 3 types of cinemas: Well, historically, cinemas opened in towns, where there was an important and large source of spectators. In the past, a typical cinema Manager would manage one projection room, therefore one screen. I don't know how come they haven't even shut this place down yet.The emergence of multiplexes makes me think as to what caused the single screen theaters (with whom I associate my childhood) to go virtually extinct. **Overall, don't even waste your time and money going here even if you have kids, save your money up and go to the Rave a whole lot better experience. The tables inside were rocky and dirty the room was all on one level so you're SOL if you're sitting behind someone whom is tall. The movie had this big ol' line going through it almost the first 30 minutes of the movie. My husband and I went to see Wolverine, Part II. The guy behind the counter whom looked like 2 Chainz brother was really nonchalant like he could give a damn about customer service. The place smelt like hot grease and old cornchips Plus, the white guy and female whom prepared the food were not wearing any kind of gear indicating that they should be working in a kitchen and they picked up food items with their hands and no gloves. HINT: before you even order food from this place, peak around the corner of the counter and look back at their kitchen guaranteed it'll stop you from ordering any food from there. ![]() I ordered the chicken tenders which were full of fat. The popcorn was stale and the hamburger my husband ordered was horrible. Cheaper is not always better: while the place may have been cheap, the food was absolutely disgusting. Secondly.well instead of naming them in this order because there were so many bad things to say bout this place, I'm just going to list them: First and foremost the place was extremely hard to find even by GPS. OMG!! All of the people whom put a good review about this place obviously have no taste.
